In the mid-1930s, Bill Simmons, our company’s founder, embarked on a journey that would shape the history and legacy of Simmons Foods.
Bill’s path to success was forged through hard work, dedication, and a resolute belief in the fundamental principle that putting people first is always the right thing to do. He took his first role in the agriculture industry at the Cudahy Packing Company in Alma, Nebraska. In the mid-1930s, Cudahy Packing was one of the nation’s leading food companies. His commitment to learning and growing was evident and he spent six years in various manager roles gaining invaluable experience and insight about people and business.
Fast forward to November 1945. With echoes of World War II still resonating, Bill organized the purchase of an astonishing $15,000 in Victory Bonds. What made this act truly remarkable was that these bonds, though purchased by the Cudahay Packing Company, were credited to the town of Alma. The act was a testament to Bill Simmons’ early involvement in initiatives that coordinated business resources to support the betterment of local communities.
This story highlights Bill’s early dedication to community well-being and his belief in balancing work and community needs. It’s the story of a man who would go on to build a generational, family-led, global business with an unwavering commitment to putting people first.
