Simmons Announces Plan To Optimize Pet Food Operations; Pennsauken Facility To Close by Late 2020

PENNSAUKEN, NJ (November 4, 2019) – Today, Simmons Pet Food, Inc. announced plans to transition wet pet food production capacity to optimize its operations, making necessary the closure of its pet food operations in Pennsauken, New Jersey by late next year.

"Simmons is committed to achieving world-class customer service and exceptional product quality,” said David Jackson, Chief Operating Officer, Simmons Foods. "This production shift is a necessary step in advancing our pet food operations strategy.”

During its assessment and analysis, the company considered upgrading the Pennsauken facility, but found the cost would have been prohibitive. In 2020, Simmons will transition Pennsauken’s canned pet food production to a new, high-speed line at its Emporia, Kansas complex.

“Business decisions that impact the lives and livelihoods of our team members are difficult. We are committed to doing all we can to provide affected team members with resources and support during the transition and closure of the plant in Pennsauken,” said Jackson.

Career fairs and other support will be provided at the appropriate time to help make the transition as smooth as possible, including providing separation pay and other benefits. For those at the Pennsauken facility willing to relocate, Simmons will offer positions at its other locations.
